About
Ran Jiao is a performing artist based in Prague. She is interested in temporary places, especially places formed among bodies and interactions. She approaches relationships in a spatial manner and space as relationships of relevance. Site-specific and dialogical, her work discusses how performance could intervene and bring an environment alive. Influenced by ecofeminism and indigenous ways of knowing, she uses performance as a tool to re-think social and environmental entanglement. Her performative formats travel in between movement, installation, and object performances.
She gained her master's degree from the Directing and Dramaturgy program at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), and her bachelor's degree from the English Studies Department at the University of Hong Kong.
She has worked as a creator, director, and performer on projects with various festivals, such as Tanec Praha, Mala Inventura, the Bazaar Festival, and Prague Quadrennial 2019, etc. And she is part of the performance research collective, Lovable Humans, z.s.
